Sire
Productions was founded in 1966 by Seymour Stein and Richard Gottehrer.
The
first records were issued in 1968 and distributed by London Records.
Sire
introduced underground progressive British bands to the American market,
as
the Climax Blues Band, Barclay James Harvest and proto-punks The Deviants.
In
the late 1970s, Sire transformed itself into an independent record label
and
signed artists from Punk Rock and New Wave scenes,
including
the Ramones, the Dead Boys and Talking Heads. |
