Ace
Records was started in August 1955 in Jackson, Mississippi by Johnny Vincent.
Ace
enjoyed several national hits in the late 1950s, but by 1962, Ace's fortunes
were on the wane. Vincent tried to get better distribution by signing a
five year deal with Vee-Jay Records in Chicago.
Vee-Jay
collapsed and Ace became a small regional label with the release of a few
more records, but soon Johnny Vincent gave up the record business in favor
of other interests.
Vincent
reactivated the label in 1971 to produce some new music and reissue the
treasures from the label's vault. |
